Questions
Asked Before Ordering
The short answer first, then why. Anything else: write to support@painted.app and a person answers.
Which courses can I print?
Any course OpenStreetMap holds nine or more numbered holes for.
Find your course in the studio and it counts what the survey holds before any price: numbered holes, greens, fairways, bunkers and water. Nine numbered holes opens the order. Below that, the drawing still shows and the count says what's missing.
Where do the yards come from?
From each hole's surveyed line, measured on the ellipsoid.
Mappers draw each hole in OpenStreetMap as a line from the tee to the green. We measure that line point to point with Vincenty's formulae on the WGS84 ellipsoid and round to the nearest yard. The example course against its own card shows how close that lands.
Why doesn't a hole match my club's card?
Because the line may start at a different tee.
A card prints a figure for each set of tees; OpenStreetMap usually holds one line per hole and doesn't say which tee it starts from. Where a mapper typed the card's length on the hole, the studio shows it beside ours as Tagged, and never in place of ours.
Is par on the print?
Where the survey records it.
Par comes from the hole's own tag in OpenStreetMap. Where a hole has none, the card shows a blank: we never guess a par.
What's The Hole?
One hole, drawn as a yardage book draws it.
The sheet turns so the tee sits at the foot and the green at the top, and every bunker and water hazard within 40 yards of the hole's line gets its carry from the tee, in yards, to its nearest edge.
What are The Round and The Ace?
Two layers you can add, in your own words.
The Round sets a ruled scorecard under The Course, with a name and a score for each hole; Out, In and Total are added for you, and only when every hole in them has a score. The Ace marks a hole in one on The Hole: the line from tee to green in the colourway's accent, a ring on the green, the name, the date, the club and up to two witnesses.
My course has 27 or 36 holes.
All of them are drawn and measured.
The Course draws every numbered hole OpenStreetMap holds and the card lists them all. The Round's scorecard takes one 18 at a time, so on a larger course it is hidden.
What sizes and materials?
Fine art paper, gallery canvas, a float-framed canvas, or the file.
The studio shows each with its sizes and prices once you pick the sheet. Shipping is what the lab charges, and nothing more; the shipping page has the detail.
How long does it take?
One to five days to print, then the carrier's time.
We print it to order, and the tracking link is emailed when it ships. A Digital File arrives as a download link as soon as the payment clears.
Can I give one?
Yes, as a gift code.
Choose an amount on Give a Course; the code comes to you by email, with a note to pass on. They find their course and enter the code when they order.
Does the club approve these?
No, and the print doesn't say it does.
The course's name says which course it is. No club makes or endorses the print, and a club's crest goes on one only when the club orders it or agrees in writing.
Is anything on the print made up?
Nothing we drew.
Every shape comes from the survey and every yard from the arithmetic, and the margin of the print says so, with the date the data was read. The words you add are yours.
